Reward and Science-Based Training

At Scoteleia Working and Pet Gundog Training, we try to remain on the cutting edge of animal behavioural science. We have been training dogs for 20+ years initially starting with German Shepherds, training and owning quite a few. Having been around gundogs for most of our lives, it was natural we would fall into training both Spaniels and Retrievers at some point. This passion started 15 years ago with our English Springer Spaniel, Kai. All of our dogs work on shoots, compete in working tests and trials. 2023 has been a successful working test season, winning the URC H&SW Open, qualifying for the England Team selection event, winning the Labrador Retriever Club Open water test, coming third (second highest scoring dog) and second (highest scoring Open Dog) in Team events.

We provide a range of both private and group classes to fit your specific needs, our training is equipped  to help you achieve your goals. I am qualified to deliver education to adults with 25+years of experience of teaching at various levels. Our training grounds cover different areas to enable your dog to experience a wide variety of terrain. Classes are conducted on open pasture land so you can see the methodology behind all the classes and you experience how to conduct each lesson. This allows you to take what you have observed and generalise it in various areas. Group training is conducted over a wide variety of terrain to push both the dog and handler.  From impulse control and obedience to complex commands - no dog is untrainable if the handler is equipped with the right tools and is willing to put the time in.
